Classic Tic-Tac-Toe has a major flaw: if both players know what they are doing, the game always ends in a draw. It’s a solved game.
Infinity Tic-Tac-Toe (sometimes called "Eat Tac Toe" or "3-Piece Tic-Tac-Toe") fixes this by adding one simple but revolutionary rule: The 3-Piece Limit.
The Golden Rule
Each player can only have 3 marks on the board at once. When you place your 4th mark, your 1st (oldest) mark disappears.
How to Play: Step-by-Step
- Start Normally: The game begins like classic Tic-Tac-Toe. X and O take turns placing marks.
- The Critical Turn: Once both players have placed 3 marks (6 moves total), the board is "full" in terms of capacity.
- The Vanishing Act: On your next turn, you must place a new mark. As soon as you do, your oldest mark fades away. This opens up a spot on the board that was previously blocked!
- Victory: The goal remains the same—align 3 of your marks in a row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal). But now, you have to do it while your own pieces are constantly disappearing.
3 Pro Strategies to Win
1. The "Center Trap"
In standard Tic-Tac-Toe, the center is king. In Infinity mode, the center is dangerous. If you take the center early (as your 1st move), remember that it will be the first piece to vanish when you make your 4th move. A smart opponent will wait for your center piece to disappear and then strike.
2. Predict the Vanish
Don't just look at the empty squares. Look at the oldest pieces (often highlighted or dimmed in our Neon version). Ask yourself: "If I move here, my defense on the left side disappears. Will that let my opponent win?"
3. Force the Error
The best way to win is to force your opponent to defend a spot that won't matter. Make a threat that forces them to block you, but in doing so, they delete their own key defensive piece elsewhere.
